HEC TWO YEAR DEGREE PROGRAM(BA MA) BAN STILL INTACT
HEC(Higher Education Commision) upholds its decision to ban 2 years BA BSc and MA MSc program and denied reports of extensions. Universities should help colleges in removing obstacles for a four-year degree programs. According to Dunya News, HEC has upheld the decision to close the two-year degree program and denied reports of extension of the two-year degree program till 2022, saying that there is still no way to continue the two-year degree program.
However, notification is not issued. Higher Education Commission had last year in November directed all public and private universities in the country to close the two-year graduation and master’s degree programs. The statement of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peshawar saying that HEC has allowed continuing the two years degree programs till 2020 caused confusion. The VC said that it was agreed to continue the two-year graduation and master’s programs for a year and the news that students would not face any problems in enrolling in these programs till 2022 was ambiguous.
When contacted by Dunya news, Ayesha, spokesperson of the Higher Education Commission, said that the date of the two-year degree program has not been extended in any way. The decision to close the two-year graduation program was upheld. Hakeem Ali Talpurka, in-charge of the Regional Directorate, Karachi of the Higher Education Commission, also said that no decision has been taken yet regarding the extension of the two-year degree program. If such a decision had been taken, a notification would have been issued. In response to a question, Hakeem Ali Talpur said that the universities should help the colleges in removing the obstacles in the four-year program in their affiliated colleges.
